Statistics Problems

Source: Problem prompts adapted from Ace the Data Science Interview — Chapter 6 Medium set (Huo & Singh). Model answers and explanations here are original for this course.

Fifteen more statistics interview questions, one tier up from the easy set. This set is mostly compute — expectations, variances, and MLEs — with a few derivation/explain questions mixed in (those use the "Show model answer" format). Progress is saved in this browser, and wrong numeric checks reveal the official answer after two attempts.

Hints: most of these want an expectation via conditioning (set up E[X]=⋯+…E[X]E[X] = \dots + \dots E[X] and solve) or a coupon-collector-style sum of geometrics — identify which pattern applies before grinding through algebra.
