Communicating your game

Do not print Assignment4_ card files until you need them for this section (custom numbers, abilities, extra space).

4.1 Write a concept GDD

Instructor question

Given the game as it is now, write a GDD outline of no more than 2,000 words (about 10 Google Docs pages with images and diagrams).

Use the headings below, or change them to fit. Use images or videos to make your points.

Gabriel’s tip

Do not write linearly and in depth for every heading first. Outline the main points under each section, then write the parts you are most comfortable with. You will edit more than once. Share it anyway. Do not let perfect (and never finished) beat good (and finished).

4.2 Create a 3-minute presentation

Instructor question

Finish the GDD first. It is the starting point for this talk.

Three minutes is short: three slides would be about one minute each. Publishers and investors often give you about this much time.

Use the GDD overview: what players do (mechanics), why (objectives), where (world), and the fantasy you want them to live.

Suggested deck (about 20 seconds per slide; change it if it fits your game better):

  1. Name of the game
  2. One sentence that describes the game
  3. Main mechanics, part 1
  4. Main mechanics, part 2
  5. Player’s main objectives
  6. Brief game world
  7. Fantasy you are fulfilling
  8. Very short summary (1–3 sentences)
  9. Thanks (required) and contact (optional for the assignment)
Gabriel’s tip

Be visual. Use graphics, not big blocks of text. Original assignment art came from Kenney Assets (CC0). Thank them if you use their work.

Deliverable: a short video narrating your slides, or the slides themselves. Paste a link below.
